Frequently Asked Questions
Getting started
Register your business, submit an application with the plan you need, and pay once it is approved. Your plan then starts, we allot your business its own barcode series, and you can assign a barcode to each product.
Usually your GST certificate or PAN card. Our reviewer will tell you if anything else is needed.
For billing at the counter and for keeping track of stock. Retail outlets scan them at the point of sale (POS), and warehouses use them to record goods coming in, going out and on the shelf. Any scanner or billing software that reads EAN-13 barcodes can read them.
Two things must be in place: an active plan, and a barcode series allotted to your business by our team. If your plan is active and the Barcodes page still says no series has been allotted, contact us.
Barcodes
No. We issue internal product identifiers. They are not GS1-issued GTINs. Check whether your retailers or marketplaces require GS1 registration.
PNG and SVG. SVG stays sharp at any size and is best for printing.
It is the block of numbers reserved for your business. Every barcode you generate begins with your series, followed by a running number for the product and a final check digit, making 13 digits in all. No other business is given your series.
The series decides how many barcodes you can have: a 10-digit series leaves two digits for the product, so 100 barcodes, numbered 00 to 99. You can see your series on your Company Profile.
Like the barcodes on retail packaging: an EAN-13 with the 13 digits printed underneath and longer guard bars at the start, middle and end. The image includes clear space above and below the bars so that it scans reliably.
No. Each barcode belongs to one product. A different size, flavour, colour or pack of the same item counts as a different product and needs its own barcode.
Print one sample at the size you plan to use and scan it. Dark bars on a light, plain background scan best; avoid shrinking the image too far, printing over a seam or curve, or covering the clear space around the bars.
Anyone can enter the number on our Verify Barcode page. It shows the product name and the company the barcode is registered to, and whether it is active.
Yes, on request. We supply QR codes (with or without your logo), PDF417 and Code 128 barcodes as print-ready images. See the Services page and contact us with what you need.
Certificates
When your plan starts you receive a certificate showing that your business is registered with us and for how long. It carries a QR code; scanning it opens a page that confirms the certificate is valid. It is not a government licence or a trade mark.
Plans and payments
You can no longer assign new barcodes until you renew. Barcodes you have already assigned stay registered.
You pay only after your application has been approved. You can pay online through our payment gateway or by bank transfer. GST is added to the plan price, and you receive a GST invoice once the payment is confirmed.
You can cancel within 7 days of payment if no barcode has been generated. After that, or once a barcode has been generated, the plan is not refundable. Duplicate payments are always refunded. The full terms are on our Refund & Cancellation Policy page.
Apply for a larger plan, or contact us and we will suggest the right one. The barcodes you have already assigned stay registered to your products.
Your account
Only the product name and your company name are shown to someone who verifies one of your barcodes. Your stock codes, prices, documents, contact details and payments are never shown. See our Privacy Policy.
